At the heart of everything we do at Our Lady of Perpetual Adoration Monastery is one profound act. We watch. We keep vigil. We sit in the presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, hour after hour, day after day, without ceasing. To the world, this might seem strange. For us, it is everything.
Why We Watch
To the world, this might seem strange. Why would women consecrate their entire lives to kneeling before a piece of bread in a monstrance? The answer, for us, is simple and total: because we believe He is there. Because we are convinced, with our whole hearts, our whole minds, and our whole beings, that the Eucharist contains the real, living presence of Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.
And if He is there, then we want to be there too. Not as a duty. Not as a religious obligation. But as a response to love.
The Question That Founded Our Monastery
“So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?” (Matthew 26:40)
These words of Jesus to His sleeping disciples in Gethsemane are the words that called Our Lady of Perpetual Adoration Monastery into being. They are not words of condemnation. They are words of longing. The longing of a God who desires our company, our attention, and our love.
Perpetual adoration is our answer. It is our way of saying: Yes, Lord. We will watch with You. We will not leave You alone. Not for one hour, not for one night, not ever.
